Bal with Shillelagh

At our Christmas ball, Balhalla welcomes Shillelagh, an atmospheric trio from French Flanders with a deep love for balfolk. Gabriel Lenoir (violin), Aurélien Tanghe (guitar), and Benjamin Macke (diatonic accordion) play dance music that lives, breathes, and moves – playful, rhythmic, and full of warmth and character.

All three are not only musicians, but also dancers. That dual perspective resonates in their music: always in close contact with the dance floor, filled with pulses that set the body in motion. Their repertoire includes dances from their own region (such as Gavre, Pieternelle, Malinoise...) alongside more widely known forms like bourrées, waltzes, scottishes, and circles.

With a strong sense of both tradition and improvisation, they create a unique atmosphere – inviting, light-hearted, and always in dialogue with the dancers.
